Park Minyoung

Minyoung Park, a Korean oboist, currently serves as oboe and English horn player with the Macao Orchestra since joining in 2023.

She began studying oboe at age 10 under Hyung Sub Kim and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in oboe performance from Seoul National University in 2003. In 1998, she won first prize in the Seoul national university’s oboe competition and performed as a soloist with the Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra in Korea.

Park pursued further studies in Europe at Musikhochschule Zürich and Musikakademie Basel under Thomas Indermühle and Emanuel Abbühl, and at Musikhochschule Stuttgart with Christian Schmitt. During this period, she earned third prize (with first and second not awarded) at the 4th International Oboe Competition “Giuseppe Tomassini” in Petritoli, Italy. In 2008, she was a semi-finalist in the 60th Prague Spring Music Competition, toured the USA with the Swiss Woodwind Quintet to acclaim from American media, and won a competition at Musikakademie Basel, performing as soloist with the Basel Chamber Orchestra.

Since moving to China, Park has collaborated with renowned conductors and soloists. Her appointments include co-principal oboe with the China NCPA Orchestra (2010-2014), principal oboe with the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra (2017-2019), and Hong Kong Sinfonietta (2019-2020).
