Hung Ka Yeung
Cellist Thomas Hung is an active performer whose solo and chamber engagements have been presented throughout Asia, America, and Europe, appearing with major orchestras in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and Latvia.
Before joining the Macao Orchestra, Thomas was a member of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra (2024–25 season). At the 2017 Nobel Prize Award Ceremony, Thomas performed in the Orchestra of the Future conducted by Gustavo Dudamel. In August 2023, he performed as soloist in Beethoven’s Triple Concerto for the inaugural concert of the Greater Bay Area Youth Orchestra. His solo artistry is showcased in performances with the Hong Kong Philharmonic and a debut recital in the HKSAR Leisure and Cultural Services Department’s “Our Music Talents” series.
Thomas has been awarded the Home Affairs Bureau’s Commendation from the Hong Kong government, the Bernard van Zuiden Music Prize, and the Harriet Gibbs Fox Memorial Prize from Yale University. He holds degrees with distinction from the New England Conservatory, Yale University, and Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. His artistry was refined under the tutelage of Ray Wang, Paul Watkins, and Lluís Claret. His musical development has been further enriched through studies with cellists Yo-Yo Ma, Jian Wang, and David Finckel.
