On the day the world bids farewell to the old and welcomes the new, a unique performance explores possibilities for our artistic future. A conventional New Year’s Concert (in the mode of Vienna) includes waltzes and polkas where joyful dancing is key. This time, Beijing-based Tao Dance Theater—recipient of the Silver Lion Award of Dance at the Venice Biennale—joins the Macao Orchestra in presenting Chinese modern dance, extending and expanding our horizons while engaging in dialogue with the Viennese tradition. In our increasingly complicated world, the simple yet thoughtful motto “the body is the theater” will certainly open our hearts and minds.
