Xu Yang

Xu began to learn violin at the age of five. He won first prize in various editions of the China Wuhan Music Competition, and fifth prize in the National Violin Competition. In 1997, his solo performance at the New Zealand Festival marked a great success; in 1999, he was selected to participate in a tour with the Asian Youth Orchestra to the United States, Japan and Canada in celebration of its 10th anniversary.

In 2000, he assumed the position of assistant principal of the AYO, performing in the Sydney Opera House, in Australia; the same year, he was selected as one of the outstanding young artists by the Ministry of Culture of China and sent to give a visiting performance in Taiwan. Xu has played with the Macao Orchestra since 2003.
