In advance of Philip Glass’s landmark 90th birthday in January 2027, the Macao Orchestra presents two unique evenings in the historic Mandarin’s House, featuring five of Glass’s string quartets. Many people have been captivated by the minimalist movement, enchanted by the pulsating motifs and gradual harmonic shifts also found in Glass’s Hollywood film scores. However, the composer prefers to identify his style as “music with repetitive structures”, eschewing broad artistic labels. Regardless, these two concerts are unique opportunities to live and breathe the mesmerising, trance-like quality of Glass’s music. Not to be missed!
