Russian composers Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov and Sergei Rachmaninoff both have extraordinary creativity and orchestration skills. The former’s “Spanish Capriccio” is not only gorgeous, enthusiastic, but also gives full play to the unique charm of various instruments in the orchestra. The latter, in “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini” and “Symphonic Dances”, deftly used famous melodies of his predecessors and his own to create magnificent masterpieces in a grand structure and with capricious changes. French pianist Lise de la Salle, an active, award-winning musician on international music scene since her coming to international attention in 2005, with a Bach/Liszt recording that Gramophone Magazine selected as “Recording of the Month”, will perform as the soloist.
