One of the long-lost vocal traditions from Europe’s early-music era are the castrati, the last of whom died more than a century ago. Nowadays, countertenors have captured the popular imagination for their technical prowess, dazzling ornamentations and exquisite breath control. In this concert, soloist Cameron Shahbazi performs under the baton of Music Director of the world-renowned Academy of Ancient Music Laurence Cummings. From Catholic liturgy and Lutheran cantata to operatic arias, this selection of Baroque melodies refreshes our minds as we travel back to three centuries ago.
