Cheng-Te Yeh will assume the position of Resident Conductor of the Macao Orchestra in the 2025–26 season. In September 2023, he was invited by Lio Kuokman, Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Macao Orchestra, to serve as Assistant Conductor. During his tenure, he successfully led the orchestra in several major performances in Macao. He subsequently took the orchestra on tour to participate in the 3rd Zhuhai Arts Festival. In 2024, he conducted the orchestra in collaboration with the Hong Kong Ballet for the world premiere of the large-scale ballet Liang Zhu – The Butterfly Lovers, which was met with widespread acclaim.
From 2019 to 2022, Yeh served as Assistant Conductor with various symphony and philharmonic orchestras in the Taiwan Region, China. Passionate about the art of orchestral performance, Yeh is known for his precise, clear conducting and his ability to evoke vibrant, expressive musical interpretations. In addition to conducting orchestral works and premiering contemporary compositions, he has also directed and curated a diverse range of cross-disciplinary performances, including productions combining theatre, dance, folk traditions, and popular music—earning praise from across the cultural sector.
In 2013, Yeh was awarded the Diplôme Supérieur de Direction d’Orchestre from the École Normale de Musique de Paris, having passed the examination with the highest distinction—“unanimous approval with congratulations from the jury”—for two consecutive years. He became the first in 32 years to achieve this distinction in such a short time. In 2017, he earned a Master of Music degree in Orchestral Conducting from the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne, studying under the esteemed French conductor Aurélien Azan Zielinski.
During his time in Europe, Yeh actively participated in international conducting programs and music academies. In 2016, he was awarded a full scholarship by the Swiss government to attend the internationally renowned Gstaad Menuhin Festival, where he collaborated with distinguished musicians such as the Ottensamer clarinet family, cellist Sol Gabetta, pianist Gwhyneth Chen, and violinists Richard Lin and Pin-Jen Lin. Between 2014 and 2016, he was repeatedly selected for the prestigious Järvi Academy. His mentors have included Valery Gergiev, Neeme Järvi, Paavo Järvi, Jorma Panula, Leonid Grin, and Wing-Sie Yip.
Yeh has collaborated with a wide range of orchestras, including the Gstaad Festival Orchestra, Järvi Academy Orchestra, Pärnu City Orchestra, the VU Orchestra (Amsterdam), Orchestre de l’Opéra de Massy, Taiwan Philharmonic, Evergreen Symphony Orchestra, and the Kaohsiung City Chinese Orchestra.
Deeply committed to arts education and the cultivation of young talent, Yeh led his student orchestra to win the Gold Medal at the Global Youth Music Festival (SCL Festival) in Vienna in 2023. Under his leadership, the group performed at both the Musikverein and the Vienna Konzerthaus, guiding young musicians in their artistic growth through performance and mentorship.
