Noted by The Strad for her “blazing insight and dazzling virtuosity”, New Zealand violinist Amalia Hall celebrates a diverse career as an international soloist, as the concertmaster of Orchestra Wellington, and as the violinist of NZTrio, which has been described as “New Zealand’s most indispensable ensemble”.
Amalia is a top prize winner at five international competitions. She is a laureate of numerous others, including the Joseph Joachim International Competition and International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians. She is a graduate of the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music with Pamela Frank and Joseph Silverstein.
Since making her solo debut at age 9 with the Auckland Philharmonia, Amalia’s solo appearances have included I Virtuosi Italiani, United Strings of Europe, NDR Radiophilharmonie, National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan, Mexico State Symphony Orchestra, Brno Philharmonic Orchestra and Filarmónica de Querétaro.
In 2024 she appeared as guest concertmaster of l’Orchestre de la Suisse Romande alongside soloist Martha Argerich.
In 2025, engagements include the Mendelssohn concerto in Teatro Colón with conductor James Judd and the Buenos Aires Philharmonic and Bartok’s 2nd concerto with conductor Gábor Káli and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
