Sergei Prokofiev was a piano virtuoso whose concertising on the international stage often included his own compositions. That was indeed the case for his Piano Concerto No. 3, premiered in Chicago in 1921. Deemed a fiendishly difficult work, the pianist shines amid the orchestra in movements energetic, lyrical and whimsical. Romeo and Juliet is the composer’s first ballet created for production in the Soviet Union. Before the full dance work appeared on stage, Prokofiev generated two orchestral suites with highlights. This time, Macao audiences will have a special treat: an orchestral suite from Romeo and Juliet compiled by our own maestro Lio Kuokman.
