Mozart only lived a short life of thirty-five years, but touring everywhere since an early age made him a man of the world, enabling him to develop his style in diverse directions. In Adagio and Fugue in C Minor, he used the contrapuntal techniques that were no longer popular at the time, rendering a piece that reveals a solemnity rarely seen in Mozart’s music; Clarinet Concerto in A Major, composed for the gifted, virtuosic clarinettist Anton Stadler after Mozart met him, displays the solo instrument’s flexibility; last but not least, Symphony No. 25, written by Mozart at 17, already shows the spirit of conflict and struggle in a Sturm und Drang (Storm and Stress) style popular at the time.
