Into the 20th century, conceptual innovations and drastic changes in artistic style gave chamber music a new vitality. This concert presents works by several American composers. Samuel Barber embodied the more traditional, lyrical style of composition; Igor Stravinskywas a leading figure in the neoclassical field; with his avant-garde innovations, Charles Ives was a great pioneer in the modern American music scene. Although with traditional formal titles the three pieces highlight the trend of co-existence of styles in that eclectic era.
