Lio Kuok Man to conduct two concerts of the Macao Orchestra this month

The programmes will also feature top Taiwanese violin soloist Tseng Yu-Chien and flautist Jasmine Choi, the first Korean musician to play in the Vienna Symphony.

Local musical hero Lio Kuok Man will conduct two concerts of the Macao Orchestra this month, continuing his highly successful season as principal guest conductor.

The first performance, Fantasy of Four Seasons – Yu-Chien Tseng and Macao Orchestra, will feature violin soloist Tseng Yu-Chien from Taiwan. The top prize winner of the 2015 Tchaikovsky International Violin Competition has previously collaborated with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the London Philharmonic.

Slated to start this Saturday at 8:00 pm at the Macao Cultural Centre’s Grand Auditorium, the orchestra will present Dvořák’s Symphony No 7, while Tseng will perform Violin Concerto No 2 – The American Four Seasons by Philip Glass.

 

The second performance, The Enchanting Flute: Jasmine Choi and Macao Orchestra, will also be held at the Grand Auditorium, at 8:00 pm on 10 March, featuring South Korean flautist Jasmine Choi, who will perform a transcribed version of the Violin Concerto in D minor by Aram Khachaturian. Choi was the first Korean musician in the Vienna Symphony and served as its former principal flute player.

 

The orchestra will also present Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade under Lio’s baton.

 

Tickets for either performance cost between 150 and 300 patacas, with various discounts available.
