The Overture to The Creatures of Prometheus came into being in 1801 as a ballet commission\, staged in Vienna’s famed Burgtheater for more than 40 performances. Cast in the classical mode\, it stands in contrast to the composer’s only Violin Concerto and his final symphony\, where an expanding sense of space encompasses everyone in the concert hall.
